NPS Estonian area monthly price was record low in December

Nord Pool Spot Estonian area market price decreased 20.7% in December compared to November and average price turned out to be 32.61 EUR/MWh.
Nord Pool Spot Finnish area average market price was 33.34 EUR/MWh in December and price level decreased 20.7% in monthly comparison. Market price in Lithuanian power exchange Baltpool decreased 20.0% in December and average price turned out to be 35.99 EUR/MWh.
Similarly to recent half a year, an important factor that affected NPS Estonian area price level also in December was NPS Finnish area electricity price. Namely, prices in Estonian and Finnish price areas were equal in 66.1% of hours in December.
Decrease in NPS Finnish area price level was caused by high temperature, large precipitation amount, which brought about large-scale supply of hydro power plants' production, and increased wind power plants' production in Nordic countries and increase in nuclear power plants' production in Sweden. Increased electricity production in Latvia and Lithuania had downward pressure on prices in NPS Estonian area and in Baltpool. Decrease in consumption during Christmas also had downward pressure on electricity market prices.
427.3 GWh of electricity was bought in Estonian market area in December, which is 12.3% less than in November, and 538.5 GWh of electricity was sold, that is 4.9% less compared to previous month. 143.2 GWh of electricity was exported from Estonia to Finland in December which is 35.6% more than in November and 32.0 GWh of electricity was imported from Finland to Estonia, which is 21.9% more compared to previous month.
